It’s easy to find comfort in being around people who are ike us and share our ideas. However, I’ve learned the most about myself from those who are different – those who spend their time differently, pursue careers I wouldn’t consider, and live in unique ways. When I first meet someone I perceive as different, I’m often aware of the biases and preconceived ideas I bring to the table. I don’t always like this, but it happens.
Yet, the more I learn to trust and believe in myself, the more open I am to inviting different people, opportunities, and experiences into my life. There’s a saying that we can choose how we see a situation. When I slow down, understand, and choose my response intentionally, I create space to connect more meaningfully with other.
